I think you're right. They had a news break and far too many commericials, now they are talking about something else. They often have a phone in time a bit later, when they may have more.
Oh well, I tried.

i have been asked to give a talk on the jw's, about 30-45 mins long.. but there is so much i would like to say that it could end up being either very long or boring or both.
if you had to give a talk about jw's to a group of people who really had no idea about jw beliefs and culture.
what would you included ?.
You need to shape your talk to fit your audience. If you are talking to a religious/Christian group, then the differences in theology as other posters mentioned would be of interest.
If you are talking to a more mixed group, then dicussing the social/ cultural differences(high control religious groups/cult like behavior) will be of more interest. Use the actual Watchtower quotes or book quotes to show what you mean. Let their own words condemn them. As a non-JW, these are some of the things I found most disturbing. .
-once someone is converted to JW, they are discouraged from spending much time with their family if they are not JWs or sympathetic to them, effectively breaking the family bond.
- no birthdays, Christmas, Valentines, Mothers day etc. and why
- the numbers of hours knocking on doors and that it must be reported, also the number of meetings every week
-the dress code for meetings
-treatment of women, very sexist, man head of house, cover head to pray, dealing with abusive marriage and coverups
-coverups of child abuse and continued support of convicted abusers within congregations and that they still go door to door
-elders have enormous power and who they are (plumbers, windowwashers?) and may not have much formal education/training to influence the life alternating nature of their decisions. The incredible control they exert over every aspect (including very personal ones) of the ordinary JW's life.
-even questioning can cause disfellowshipping, or smoking, accepting blood to save their own life, that you don't have to be a bad person or to have done bad things to be DF
-the blood policy and the HLC (what is is and how much medical training they have?) and their intrusiveness into someone's medical care, and that many people have died due to the blood policy
-that JWs are discouraged from socializing with anyone who isn't JW such as work friends or school friends, also not play on school teams
-JWs may not respect confidentiality in their jobs
-discouragement of university education
-that JWs think the world is a terrible place and are looking forward to the end????
-I wouldn't go into much about all the sexual DF stuff because, really, most people don't talk in public about that kind of thing. It is considered inappropriate. I have never seen people so obsessed about sex and talk as much about it as Jehovah's Witnesses.
I'm sure there are tons more, but this is what I recall hitting me when I first learned about the Watchtower.
today i phoned our hospital to make arrangements to deliver the new booklet by kerri louderback-wood.
i spoke with someone from administration about how the witnesses have been misinformed about blood and that i felt the medical staff should be aware of this.
i was told that they have to provide medical care for a wide variety of religions and beliefs and must not take a side.
Your best bet would be to send it to the Medical Director of the hospital. Send it with a cover letter indicating why you are sending it, perhaps with a reference to:
has anyone here got to the stage where they just dont care about the wts anymore?
whether they exist or disband, whether its about doctrine and dogma, attitudes, flip-flops, what they think of you, scandles etc.
would this be the end goal of recovering from the jws?
"The organization is evil" ...and just plain mean. Most ordinary people don't know much about JWs, but funny, anyone who has had much to do with JWs knows how crazy/scary and controlling the organization is.
Hi jgnat. :- )
just reading another thread i've noticed something rather interesting.
why is it that jw today do not follow jewish kosher or kashrut of draining every last drop of blood out of meat?
( heb: kaf-shin-resh - fit, proper or correct)
anewme, narkissos is right. A Jewish friend explained that "life" is the big gift from God. It is not to be abused. Not only should you accept a blood transfusion if you need it, you are free to eat non-kosher food if you if that is the only thing available. Orthodox Jewish docotrs or nurses are allowed to work on their Sabbat (Sabbath), if they are needed.
Above all, is a respect for life.

Zagor, as an outsider, a never been JW, the whole blood thing was the first and most obviously nonsensical issue.
I couldn't believe someone would eat blood and yet be willing to die for lack of a blood transfusion.
If you heat/cook blood, it coagulates. It is still there. But then, when has the Watchtower had any policy to do with blood that made sense.
Their medical policy is criminal and I hope more of the courts see it as such.
i'm a nursing student and i have to do an essay.
the case study i'm doing is of an elderly gentleman who is a jehovahs witness and i'm wondering if any of you can tell me besides refusing a blood transfusion, if there is any other beliefs that would affect medical care?
i'm not a jehovahs witness but would be very interested to hear your comments and thank you in advance!
Another point would be if your patient is in some sort of extended care facility, he would be surrounded by people who celebrate holidays such as Birthdays, Valentines, Christmas or Easter. JWs do not celebrate much of anything, and in fact think celebrating those holidays is a bad thing to do. Many of the recreation department's activities would be planned with those themes, not only for fun, but to help orient the patient as to time of year. So even if surrounded by people, the patient could feel very alone.
the nation mourned thursday along with the 10,000 police officers and emergency workers from across the continent and ordinary canadians who came to honour the lives of const.
anthony gordon, const.
lionide (leo) johnston, const.
My son attends the University of Alberta, where the service was held. A construction crane on a nearby site had a big Canadian flag hanging from it. He said there was a "Sea of red" with all the Mounties in their dress uniforms, so recognized as a symbol of Canada around the world . Really impressive. So many Mounties and police from all over North America, there to show support for the families and for each other. So many citizens, seniors, university students, all sorts of people.
He also said that there was a unique atmosphere. Sadness of course, for those lost, and compassion for the families, but most of all, respect for the role that The Royal Canadian Mounted Police play, both at home and abroad.
Thanks, Janet, for starting this thread.
